Brief Bio:  James W. Fleming, D.Ed.

Dr James Fleming co-founded with Hannaniah Pinto the Encounters in Archaeology Center near Pine Mountain GA in 2019 and currently serves as Director and CEO. The Encounters in Archaeology site is  a 19-acre property with a four acre lake which has an area that will be shaped to resemble the Sea of Galilee. Dr Fleming and Mr Pinto, along with the Board of Directors, are in the process of replicating historical-geographical settings and stories from ancient biblical times, so people can experience the context of history where events happened.

Dr. Fleming also serves as Founder and Co-Director of Biblical

Resources, an ecumenical organization serving Christians around the

world. Through Biblical Resources, Dr. Fleming presents courses of

study in historical geography and biblical history, leads study tours of biblical lands, and produces audio-visual aids for teaching Bible history, geography, archaeology and theology.

 

Since 1977 he has served on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Biblical Archaeology Review and has coordinated a number of their tours and archaeology excavation opportunities in Israel.  In 2006, Dr. Fleming co-founded the Biblical History Center in LaGrange, GA in 2006 and served as CEO until 2019.

 

He lived and worked in Israel from 1974 to 2006 where he founded and directed the World of the Bible Archaeological Museum and Pilgrim Center in Jerusalem.  While in Israel he also taught classes in the School of Overseas Students at Hebrew University.  He continues to instruct Arab and Jewish guides about important New Testament and Byzantine period sites through the Israeli Ministry of Tourism.  He has also taught at the Ecumenical Institute for Advanced theological Studies (The Tantur Ecumenical Institute in Jerusalem) from 1885-1997.

He holds and E.D. Degree from Southwestern Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX. As a cartography consultant to the Curriculum Department of the Israeli Ministry of Education, he has illustrated a number of government textbooks teaching biblical history with maps and photography.

Replicas of his maps and models of the geography of Israel have been reproduced by his company, “Relief Maps of Israel” and distributed to academic institutions around the world.

The new museum has four large courtyards which have artifacts, maps and models of the four main biblical seas: the Mediterranean, the Dead Sea, the Red sea, and the Sea of Galilee.

They will soon announce when in 2021 they will be ready to receive visitors to this exciting new ministry.

He continues to lecture and teach in the United States and internationally.
